A former Cancer Council ambassador has been charged with nine counts of fraud after she allegedly faked a cancer diagnosis to secure thousands of dollars from the community.
Amanda Power, 32, was charged by Townsville detectives on Wednesday.
Police will allege that over a five-year period Ms Power set up a fundraising page urging the community to give to her cause,.
She allegedly secured almost $13,000, along with free services from community members believing she had cancer.
It's alleged Ms Power, who was a Global Hero of Hope and Townsville Relay for Life committee member, also undertook speaking engagements about her alleged cancer diagnosis and attended summits securing free international and domestic travel.
Investigators believe more people may have donated to Ms Power between 2014 and 2019 and are calling for anyone who may have fallen victim to the alleged scam to come forward.
Ms Power , who is from Townsville, will face the Townsville Magistrates Court on October 28.
