Former Bristol City striker Milan Djuric has signed for Italian club Hellas Verona, despite reported interest from England.
The towering striker had been linked with a surprise move to the Premier League on a free transfer with Nottingham Forest and Brentford both rumoured to be interested, as per reports from Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Djuric, 32, was leaving Serie A side Salernitana on a free transfer after four years at the club, over 100 appearances and a promotion to the Italian top flight a year ago.
Salernitana somehow avoided relegation last season by just one point having lost just one of their last eight matches of the season including four victories. His move to Hellas Verona means he will stay in the top flight.
The striker spent a year and a half at Ashton Gate following his move from Cesena in 2017. However, his time in BS3 was hampered by two groin injuries that forced him to have surgery and therefore saw him struggle for fitness.
He made 27 appearances in total for City, scoring five goals before the club cut their losses and let him join Salernitana for a fee believed to be around £625,000 in the summer of 2018.
Upon his exit at City, the Bosnian left a parting message to supporters that read: "I had imagined that these 18 months would have been different but this is football and life. Thanks all the fans, players and staff! good luck for the future!"
Djuric has penned a three-year deal with his new club, meaning he is contracted to Hellas Verona until the age of 35. They finished ninth last season.
Reports suggest Salernitana could replace with Blackburn Rovers' striker Ben Brereton-Diaz. The Chilean forward could leave Ewood Park this summer with a number of clubs looking into his availability as he enters the final year of his contract.
