Bristol City favourite Famara Diedhiou has joined Spanish Segunda side Granada on loan for the rest of the season with the option to sign permanently.
The 30-year-old striker was announced as their new arrival on Tuesday evening following two-and-a-half years with Alanyaspor. It's the ninth club of his career following stints in France, England and Turkey.
Granada are currently seventh in the second tier and sit one point adrift of a play-off spot. They were relegated from the top flight last season and have ambitions for an immediate return to LaLiga.
Diedhiou, a hugely popular figure with the Robins, scored 13 times in 29 appearances for Alanyaspor last season and still has a contract with the club until the summer of 2025. He is remembered fondly during his four years in BS3 having joined from Angers for a club-record £5.3million fee.
He scored 51 goals in 169 games for City but left on a free transfer following a lengthy period of messy negotiations. Former CEO Mark Ashton claimed he had been offered one of the club's biggest deals in the summer of 2020 which he turned down.
Famara would then suggest that wasn't the case following a Twitter interaction with a supporter in which he wrote: "That's what HE said."
His performances after the arrival of Nigel Pearson in late February increasingly declined and he didn't feature in the Robins' final three games due to a knee injury. Since his departure, Diedhiou went on to win the first major piece of silverware in his career when his Senegal side won the Africa Cup of Nations just under one year ago.
Diedhiou also featured in November's World Cup and scored against hosts Qatar in a 3-1 victory, his 11th international goal.
Meanwhile, former academy forward Saikou Janneh has joined AFC Wimbledon on loan for the rest of the season from Cambridge. The 23-year-old left Ashton Gate in the summer following the end of his contract and scored once in 10 appearances for the League One side.
He will now reunite with 21-year-old striker Sam Pearson who joined Johnnie Jackson's side on loan at the beginning of the month.
