Former Arsenal star Nigel Winterburn makes Manchester United Champions League claim

Neither Manchester United, Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur have the advantage in the race for the top four according to one former Gunner.

At present, West Ham occupy the final Champions League spot after defeating Watford 1-0 on Tuesday night.

The Hammers were able to take advantage of United's draw at Burnley and Spurs' defeat to Southampton. Arsenal beat Wolves on Thursday night to boost their chances.

With the race for the Champions League looking set to go down to the wire, Nigel Winterburn told Paddy Power that he thinks the final position is anyone's for the taking.

He said: "It’s too tough to say who has the edge in the race for the top four between Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United.

"Despite Tottenham being the only ones to bring players in, it’s still tough to call.

"You can make new signings believing they will improve the squad, but if they don’t fit in straight away, they might not be up to the manager’s style of play.

"Individual players need a minimum of six months to settle in.

"None of those sides have an advantage over the other. It will be a straight shootout between them.

"The side finishing fourth will be the one that’s most consistent. If you speak to some of those teams, they might even feel that third is a possibility, but Chelsea will be too strong for them all.”

One side Winterburn failed to mention was West Ham, a surprise absentee considering the fact that the Hammers are in the driving seat at present and also that the 58-year-old finished his career at the club.
