Former Arsenal favourite Mesut Ozil delivers verdict on Arda Guler amid Gunners transfer link

Former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has tipped teenager and current Fenerbahce team-mate Arda Guler to become a 'world star' following his breakthrough season.

The 17-year-old is said to be attracting interest from the Gunners and Premier League rivals Liverpool, having found the net six times during the 2021/22 campaign so far.

Having also represented Turkey at Under 17 level too with success, the midfielder is making quite the impression, with glowing praise along the way.

Ozil, who joined the Yellow Canaries in January 2021, is once again said to be unsettled following a reported fall out with boss İsmail Kartal, despite the side sitting second in the Turkish Super Lig this season.

It was during the sides recent 5-2 win over Alanyaspor where the former Arsenal man revealed his thoughts on his team-mates performance, as Guler both scored and provided an assist during the 90 minutes. “A super goal and a super assist. Quality,” Ozil said after Guler’s breakthrough performance last month. "You will be a world star.”

With Arsenal said to be chasing the midfielder, a team of scouts from both the Gunners, as well as Liverpool, were present during Fenerbahce's victory over Galatasaray just days ago, despite the player only featuring for six minutes.

“I don’t think Arda will stay in Turkey too long,” Erol Tokgozler, Guler’s former coach at Genclerbirligi, told CNN Turk in March. “I know that there are offers from Arsenal and Bayern Munich. With each passing match, the number of these (interested) teams will increase. [Bids of] 20 to 30 million euros for Arda will be very ordinary.”
