Former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn has been charged with shooting and killing his wife, Ashley Flynn, and tampering with evidence to mislead investigations.
According to Ohio’s Tipp City Police, Ashley was found dead on Monday (local time) in her home after authorities were called to her address following reports of a burglary and shooting.
Caleb, alongside two children, were found inside the home when officers arrived.
Three days after Ashley’s death, Caleb was arrested and charged with murder, two counts of felonious assault and two counts of tampering with evidence, per Associated Press.
During his court appearance on Friday, the former Idol contestant pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
“I just want to take care of my daughters. I’m not a risk,” Caleb told Judge Samuel Huffman.

According to a 911 call released by police, Caleb told the dispatcher that someone broke into his home and killed his wife. In the call, Caleb reported that Ashley was shot multiple times in the head and that he’s unsure if the intruder was still in their home.
“There’s blood everywhere, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god,” he said.
Caleb’s lawyer, Patrick Mulligan, shared a statement expressing they were “disappointed and concerned about the short timeline and seeming rush to judgment in this case”.
“When the government runs out of leads or can’t develop leads and looks at a surviving spouse in cases such as these, the chance of a wrongful conviction increases,” the statement said, according to the AP.

Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins shut down Mulligan’s claims that the investigation was rushed.
“Rather, it has progressed at a pace dictated by a thorough and deliberate investigative process,” he said in an email obtained by the publication.
Caleb appeared on season 12 of American Idol, and during his Road To Hollywood interview, he spoke highly of his wife, revealing she was the one who urged him to try the singing show for a third time.
“I love my wife more than anything,” he said.
“She’s very, very pretty.”
In a Facebook post shared by Tipp City Schools — where she worked as a middle school volleyball coach and substitute teacher — Ashley has been remembered for her “positive impact”, “warmth” and “kindness”.
“She was known for her beautiful smile, warmth, kindness, and the positive impact she had on so many—both in and out of the classroom and on the court,” the post reads.
