Former Airdrie and Queen of the South goalkeeper joins East Kilbride for undisclosed fee

East Kilbride have announced the signing of goalkeeper Max Currie from League One Queen of the South for an undisclosed fee.

The news comes after the Lowland League title chasers saw first choice Curtis Lyle, who was on loan from Kilmarnock, join League Two Stenhousemuir in midweek. Lyle made the move after he was released from his contract by Killie and answered an SOS from Stenny after goalkeeper Conor Brennan - who was at EK last term - suffered a horror injury, ruling him out of action.

Currie has plenty of SPFL experience having had spells at Stranraer and Airdrie and signs following Marvin Bartley taking over as boss of the Doonhamers.

A statement from Queens read: We can confirm that we have this morning transferred goalkeeper Max Currie to East Kilbride for an undisclosed fee.

"Max joined from Airdrie at the start of the season, one of Wullie Gibson's first signings as manager, and made 24 appearances for us this season.

"His last action as a Queens player saw him make two saves in Tuesday night's penalty shoot out v Kelty that saw us through to the semi finals of the SPFL Trust Trophy.

"He had previously also saved twice in the early season shoot out against St Johnstone that ultimately earned us qualification through the Premier Sports Cup group stage.

"We wish Max the best of luck at his new club."

Currie is expected to make his debut next week when Kilby travel to Edinburgh Uni in the Lowland League. Kilby are idle this weekend in the 19-team fifth tier.
