Former ACB chief tenders apology to Andhra Pradesh HC

VIJAYAWADA: Former director general (DG) of Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) and present chief of intelligence, P Sitaramanjaneyulu, tendered an apology to the high court for delay in filing chargesheet in a case registered in 2018.

The high court had earlier summoned the ACB DG for personal appearance. Though Sitaramanjaneyulu was transferred from ACB, he appeared before the high court on Friday as the summons were issued when he occupied the post.

The ACB registered a case against an educational society in Prakasam district after it found out several discrepancies in supply of mid-day meals, distribution of textbooks and cycles to girl students. The society moved the high court challenging the inquiry against them. The single judge of the high court directed the society to cooperate with the investigation.

The society filed an appeal petition challenging the single judge orders. The division bench of the high court headed by Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Satti Subba Reddy asked the ACB why they have not filed the charge sheet even after four years. The high court directed ACB DG to personally appear before the court with all records of the case.

Following the directions of the high court, Sitaramanjaneyulu appeared before the court and said they have filed charge sheet. However, there has been a delay in filing the charge sheet and for that he tendered an apology. Considering the submissions of Sitaramanjaneyulu, the high court exempted him from personal appearance and posted the matter for further hearing on March 9.
