Former AC Milan transfer chief tells Chelsea £53m Man City star is perfect Hakim Ziyech heir

Former AC Milan sporting director and scout Danilo Pagni has revealed that Jack Grealish was considered by the Italian giants as an alternative to Hakim Ziyech. The Chelsea winger was heavily linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge in the summer after having fallen out of favour under former boss Thomas Tuchel.

Even under new management, a handful of injuries have seen him fall down the pecking order and he continues to be linked with an exit. football.london understand that the Blues are open to selling Ziyech should a suitable offer be tabled.

It's said that Milan made an offer of €25million (£21m) - with €5million (£4.2m) to be paid this year and €20million (£16.8m) the next - in the summer, which was rejected. With water under the bridge, Pagni has revealed that Grealish was also on the Rossoneri's shortlist during a time when the Moroccan looked close to leaving.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, as quoted by MilanLive, Pagni explained how Ziyech caught his attention. He said: "When I went to see Ajax, I sent the video to Fabio Liverani to discuss the player, he’s a friend and I also trust his judgment.

"Then someone said he wasn’t worthy of Milan. I also liked Jack Grealish a lot," he added. "When I went to see Aston Villa I didn’t even get back to the hotel before I wrote to Milan, stating he must be signed immediately."

According to Football Italia, as quoted by the MailOnline, the Ziyech's lawyer, Sebastien Ledure, has held talks with Milan regarding over a move to the San Siro this winter as he looks to secure first-team opportunities. He's featured just eight times for Chelsea this season, averaging just 31.6 minutes a game.

The report states that Ledure met with Rossoneri chiefs last month to discuss a potential move after the World Cup. Ziyech, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in 2025, is said to be a long-term target for the Italian side, and his lawyer could wrap up a deal.

The MailOnline add that Ledure has a good relationship with both Chelsea and Milan, and he would act as an intermediary if talks between the two clubs commence. If Ziyech does join the Italian giants, the Blues may be inclined to listen to Pagni's advice and take a look at Grealish, who is valued at £52.5million.
