With their easy portability, eco-friendly packaging and affordability, it’s no surprise that canned wine surges in popularity each summer.
With no corkscrews or wine glass needed, these fuss-free and flavourful single serves are ubiquitous at festivals, in the park or at the beach. But canned wine has come a long way from its novelty beginnings.
As more producers focus on quality and premium grapes, the category is shedding its budget reputation and winning over even the most discerning wine drinkers.
Once dismissed by traditionalists, canned wine is now being embraced for its convenience without compromising on taste. Beyond supermarket in-house lines (see M&S or Aldi), independent brands such as Vinca and The Canned Wine Co are forgetting glass bottles altogether.

Committing to vin in a tin, these producers appeal to Gen Zs and casual drinkers seeking unpretentious and accessible drinks. Big names have also thrown their hat in the ring, from Mirabeau to La Vieille Ferme (aka the chicken wine brand).
To arm you with the expertise needed when browsing the supermarket aisle, I asked wine consultant Libby Brodie and TikTok wine creator Candace Strickland, known as This Wine Woman, to give their canned wine recommendations. The best part? They all cost less than £5.
Mirabeau Prêt-à-Porter Rosé can
“Provence barely-there pink – so elegant and refined it deserves glassware but equally elevated for Opera Holland Park or a rooftop in Peckham,” Candace says.
Vinca organic rose wine
“People tend to buy rosé with their eyes – and in cans that's not an option – but Vinca have helpfully established that this one is ‘pale’,” Libby says. “This is a crisp, light Sicilian rosé and it's organic, so teamed with the fact it's in a lightweight recyclable can, it's better for the planet in more ways than one.”
The Canned Wine Co bright & juice gamay
“We all know that chillable reds are on trend right now. A light-bodied red from the fridge is the coolest thing to be drinking – no pun intended,” Libby says. “The Canned Wine Co have some great wines, but usually whites and rosé do best from a can. This is a rarity: a red wine from a can that is actually tasty.”

“So eccentrically British to name their sparkling swan Eleanor and offer up a perfectly graceful spritzy Pinot noir,” Candace says. “Deliciously balanced and perfect for picnics.”
