Roy Keane has shut down suggestions that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side will be remembered as one of the great teams.
Klopp has revitalised the Anfield club since he took the helm in 2015. Under his management, the club has been transformed from a side languishing in and around the Europa League places to one of the best and most consistent performers in Europe.
Under Klopp’s stewardship, the Reds have won six major trophies since his appointment on October 8, 2015 – the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League, Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup.

However, during a debate with Gary Neville, Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher, Keane shut down suggestions that Liverpool should go down as one of the greatest teams in the game because they haven’t won enough 'prizes' under Klopp.
“No. Forget about it. That’s not enough to be classed as a great team over the years,” the former Manchester United captain said.
“No. I don’t know what you’re staring at. That’s not enough prizes. They’ve been competing, they’ve been brilliant to watch but I wouldn’t put that down as a great team.”
With Neville then saying: “I think for those three years they were a great team there is two factors I would put alongside - one, that they were up against a City team which had just got 100 points.
“We didn’t get 100 points, only late 90’s points, it’s outrageous they didn’t win the league with that number of points, it’s ridiculous.
“I do think the three years where they achieved getting to the Champions League Final, they won the league - sorry, they won the Champions League Final and got to other finals - I do think in that three-year period they were a great side.
“The only reason they didn’t win the trophies Roy is talking about is because of Manchester City, and that is a huge problem for them, that City are just exceptional.
“Similar with Jurgen Klopp against Munich when they were up against the team that won the treble, and I think we had one with United in 2008 to 2011, we would have had more Champions Leagues if it wasn’t for Barcelona.”
With Keane responding: “But that’s just part of the game, you’re just gonna reel off names. That’s part of the competition.”
Before Carragher said: “I agree with both of them. I said last season this team hasn’t won enough for how good it is so I do think they’re a great team, but great teams will win the Premier League three times or win the Champions League two or three times.
“Gary’s right, you’re up against Manchester City but that is the name of the game and you think of other great Liverpool teams.
“We talk about it as one of the best we’ve seen in a Liverpool shirt but in terms of winning two or three league titles in a row, European cups year after year, we can talk about points and what we’ve seen under Jurgen Klopp is absolutely outstanding, but I just feel I wanted another league or European cup - one more big trophy just needed.
“But listen, what they’ve done and how they’ve entertained us for the last four or five years has been absolutely out of this world. There needs to be big changes this summer.”
