'Forever missed': the final call before mum swept away

Chris Smith stood against a wall of water trying in vain to save his mother, who was clinging to a tree to survive a ferocious flood.

Nearly three years after the record-breaking flash flood wiped out the village of Eugowra, in central western NSW, on November 14, 2022, Mr Smith chose to stand - not sit - in a courtroom to honour her.
