Specialist forensic officers have been seen scouring a house near the area where Galashiels schoolgirl Kaitlyn Easson vanished for 27 hours before being found ‘safe’.
Police remain at the scene in the tiny village of Gattonside in the Scottish Borders, which is located around three miles from where the 11-year-old vanished on Sunday night.
A cordon remains in place restricting access to Montgomerie Terrace while investigators continue their enquiries at the large detached property. Two luxury motors - including a Range Rover - remain parked in the driveway on Tuesday afternoon.
Police Scotland have so far failed to provide an update in the investigation after announcing that Kaitlyn had been found ‘safe and well’ late on Monday night. The Record has asked if the activity in Gattonside is related to the missing person enquiry.
The youngster was reported missing by her frantic family at around 8.30pm on Sunday, February 5, after failing to return home after playing with friends.
She was seen at the Interchange in Galashiels town centre at around 5.45pm before a further possible sighting around 10 minutes later on Melrose Road - which leads to the village of Gattonside.
Police said she was around a ‘20 minute walk from home’ before she disappeared without a trace. A massive multi-agency search operation was launched with countless volunteers taking to the streets in a bid to find the schoolgirl.
Officers said that while they had no indication she had come to harm, they were keen to reunite her with her ‘distressed’ loved ones as soon as possible.
Police Scotland later confirmed the youngster had been traced in an undisclosed location.
