Forensic officers probing the murder of a woman in Ayr were seen removing bags of evidence - including a gold golf club - from a block of flats.
Police were called to Nursery Hall in the Ayrshire town after the body of a 41-year-old woman was discovered at 10.15am on Monday. Her death is being treated as murder following a post mortem.
The block of flats and a neighbouring building remained sealed off on Wednesday afternoon. Detectives were seen removing bags of evidence from a ground floor flat which had the curtains closed.
Shocked locals told how they woke up to the quiet residential street swarming with police.
Azid, who lives across from the block of flats, told the Record: "Nobody heard anything. I woke up and saw police all over the street at 10am on Monday.
"I've never seen any trouble like this here. I was shocked when I found out it was a murder probe."
Another neighbour who lives behind the block of flats said: "I didn't hear anything until I looked out the window and saw all the police.
"We've lived here for 16 years and nothing like this has ever happened."
James McArthur, who also lives nearby added: "It's a really nice area. It's so quiet, you don't expect something like this to happen. It's really sad, she was only 41."
Officers have been conducting door to door enquiries as the investigation continues. A cordon remained in place at the residential flats as officers stood guard outside.
Cops from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team are leading the probe.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Sharp said: “An extensive investigation is underway, including officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries.
“Officers are also working to find out the last time the deceased was seen and the circumstances leading up to her death.
“Anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, should contact us immediately. If you were in the area over the weekend and have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist then please get in touch.
“It is important that we find out more about what has happened as soon as we can and I would like to reassure the community that officers are working to trace whoever is responsible.
Additional police patrols are in the area and members of the public are encouraged to speak to a police officer if they have any concerns.”
Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0920 of Monday, 27 March, 2023, or please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
