Travel advice for both Spain and Portugal has been updated by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) as Storm Oscar batters popular holiday destinations. The storm is bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the Canary Islands, Madeira, Porto Santo and the Azores.
Weather warnings have been issued by the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The UK Met Office previously warned that the storm could bring massive waves and possible flooding.
The Canary Islands are expected to be affected until Thursday June 8, with winds of up to 55mph forecast. Meanwhile winds of up to 68mph are expected in Madeira with a red weather warning issued for the island, although the storm should have moved on by Wednesday.

A yellow warning for big waves has been issued by IPMA for the Azores. Mainland Portugal and Spain are set to be unaffected by the storm.
The FCDO advises Brits to check with their tour operator before travel. For both Spain and Portugal, the FCDO said: “You should check with your tour operator or accommodation provider before you travel and follow the instructions of local authorities.”
Meanwhile the Met Office forecasts dry and sunny weather for the UK this week, with highs of 24C predicted for Greater Manchester this weekend.
