Ford is recalling nearly 2,000 newer Transit vans because a malfunction could prevent the vehicle from properly showing whether a rear passenger’s seat belt is buckled. The recall covers certain 2026 and 2027 Ford Transit vehicles and involves the wireless seat belt reminder system located within the rear seat belt buckles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the system can malfunction and fail to show a change in buckle status. That means the vehicle’s seat belt status indicator could fail to alert occupants when a rear seat belt is unfastened, potentially increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
