Ford Motor Co. has announced the recall of more than half a million Bronco vehicles due to a wiring harness defect that poses a significant fire risk. The recall affects 565,691 Ford Broncos and Bronco Raptors from model years 2021-2026.
The issue stems from inadequate protection on the engine compartment's wiring harness, which can lead to exposed wires and subsequent short-circuiting. Drivers might observe smoke emanating from air vents or a warning message on their dashboard, potentially followed by flames from the passenger side of the engine compartment. Ford estimates that approximately one per cent of the affected vehicles exhibit this defect, though the company has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the fault.
