Ford recalls 741,000 vehicles over transmission issue - five popular models are affected

  • Ford is initiating a recall of over 741,000 vehicles across the U.S. due to a critical transmission defect that could compromise the park system, significantly elevating the risk of a crash or injury.
  • The recall encompasses specific Ford F-150, Lincoln Aviator, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Expedition models manufactured between 2018 and 2021.
  • Affected vehicles may experience the temporary engagement of their transmission parking pawl while in motion, potentially damaging park system components and impairing the vehicle's ability to securely hold in "park" if the parking brake is not engaged.
  • Ford has acknowledged 24 allegations of property damage and nine alleged injuries, including two claims of emotional distress, linked to this transmission issue.
  • Owners will receive notification by mail to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership for a free Powertrain Control Module software update, an inspection for park system damage, and necessary component replacements.
