Forbidden Utes: The Best New Pickup Trucks We Don't Get In America

Americans love pickup trucks. But so does the rest of the world. Granted, they don’t embrace the full-size and heavy-duty pickups as we do, but this past year has been an exciting one for truck enthusiasts outside of the United States.

No, you won’t find the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, or Ram 1500 atop best-seller lists globally but other regions still buy pickups—and lots of them.

The Ford Ranger dominates in Europe, while theToyota Hilux maintains a stronghold in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Even Australia is ripe with all manner of interesting pickup.

Even though we’re spoiled for choice, it’s hard not to get a little jealous of all the trucks we can’t have. These are some of the newest non-US pickups that launched last year.  Which one would you want?

Dacia Duster Truck

Dacia had to outsource this to a local coachbuilder, but it’s technically a new pickup truck option we can’t have in the United States. It’s based on the compact Dacia Duster and has a super-tiny bed that measures 41.3 inches (1,050 millimeters) long and 39.3 inches (1,000 millimeters) wide.

What makes it so adorable is the fact that the design remains largely unchanged. The rear doors are the same as before, with all the major modifications occurring at the back, which keeps costs down.

Despite the bed’s diminutive size, the Duster truck can carry up to 948 pounds of cargo. That won’t compete with an F-150 by any stretch, but it’s an option we don’t get here that seems like the type of vehicle that could easily create a cult following.

Ford Ranger Super Duty

While Ford offers the Ranger and Ranger Raptor in the United States, we don’t get every flavor, including this new Super Duty trim that would put the F-150 to shame. The Ranger SD can tow up to 9,921 lbs, 1,700 more than Ford’s full-size truck.

Under the hood is an upgraded 3.0-liter turbodiesel, producing 207 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The 33-inch wheels wrap around wheels with eight studs.

It has a hood-mounted snorkel, and the Ranger's optional 34-gallon fuel tank is standard in the Super Duty. The truck, which is only available in Australia, comes in multiple configurations, single-cab chassis and double-cab pickup.

Kia Tasman

The Kia Tasman is the Korean automaker’s rival to the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. Like other Kias, it wears a very distinctive design, with a unique grille and headlights pushed to the sides, sitting in front of the blocky plastic fender flares. It’s a unique look that’s available in single-, double-, and chassis-cab configurations.

The interior isn’t as rugged-looking as its exterior, with a fairly standard modern cabin, but Kia claims its truck has class-leading headroom, shoulder room, and second-row legroom. It has three screens—two 12.3-inch displays and a 5.0-inch one—physical controls, reclining rear seats, and a folding console table.

Depending on the market, Kia offers the Tasman with a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Powertrains also depend on the market, with a 277-hp 2.5-liter gas engine or a 207-hp 2.2-liter turbodiesel available. The Tasman went on sale in the first half of 2025.

Nissan Frontier Pro Plug-In Hybrid

The Nissan Frontier Pro sounds like something that should be sold in America, but it’s not. The Pro is Nissan’s first electrified pickup, a plug-in hybrid, and it’s based on the Nissan Dongfeng Z9. Despite hybrid vehicles gaining popularity, the Frontier Pro is not coming here.

Powering the pickup is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor in the transmission. The powertrain produces a combined 402 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. It comes with manually selectable 4High and 4Low modes. It also has Pure Electric, Hybrid, Performance, and Snow modes.

The cabin looks like any other modern vehicle with a small 10.0-inch driver display, a 14.6-inch screen on the dash, and a row of real buttons below the center vents. While the Frontier Pro PHEV is a Chinese-based vehicle, Nissan plans to sell it in other markets—just not America.

Nissan Navara

Nissan launched the new Navara last year, and it’s heavily related to the Mitsubishi Triton. It looks tough, and higher-end trims like the ST-X and Pro-4X grades come with the brand’s Super 4WD, which features a Torsen limited-slip differential.

The automaker will offer the Navara in Australia with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine, producing 201 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque. It has seven drive modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.

Inside, the Triton’s influences are clearly visible, with only the Nissan badge on the steering wheel standing out as the most significant change. It has a 9.0-inch infotainment screen and a 7.0-inch driver’s display.

Toyota Hilux Electric

Toyota unveiled the ninth-generation Hilux last year and developed a fully electric version for the first time. The EV has two electric motors and a 59.2-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.

The automaker will also offer a 2.8-liter mild-hybrid turbodiesel, a 2.8-liter diesel, and a 2.7-liter gasoline engine, depending on the market. In 2028, Toyota will offer a fuel cell version.

Inside, the Hilux retains physical controls and includes a driver's display and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with over-the-air updates. Toyota sells the Hilux in over 180 markets worldwide, and America will never be one of them.

Ram Rampage

The Ram Rampage is now heading to Europe after debuting in Brazil a few years ago. It’s a unibody pick that Ram will offer in Rebel and R/T trims.

The Rebel is powered by a 2.2-liter Multijet turbodiesel engine, producing 200 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. It needs 9.9 seconds to hit 62 mph. The Rampage R/T gets a 2.0-liter Hurricane engine making 272 hp and 294 lb-ft of torque that propels the truck to 62 mph three seconds quicker.

Inside, the Rampage is nice, with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and an available Harman Kardon sound system. It has a max payload capacity of 2,237 lbs.
