Developer Snail Games released a new video series that shares new details regarding its upcoming MMO space survival game, For the Stars.

The first dev diary for the title takes players into how the game's environments, art, exploration, and mechanics shape the overall gaming experience. The studio is calling For the Stars an "open universe" survival game.

For the Stars Dev Diary

It is said that environmental storytelling is going to be a major part of the game as players can explore and discover ruins and encounter alien species.

You will also be able to observe various other creatures and gather resources that change depending on the biomes and planets you are on.

One example that was explained in the dev diary is that iron players found on a volcanic planet will be more fire resistant and provide different benefits than iron that you get from a jungle.

You will learn more about other races' traditions and experiences throughout your journey, according to MMORPG.

For the Stars will also give players the opportunity to learn from each of the civilizations that they encounter within the game. Additionally, creature and character design play pivotal roles to the procedurally generated biomes and the game's terraforming mechanics.

The latter lets players have some sort of influence on planets, with the worst being destroying them if they wish to. You can also use the mechanic to get a handle on particular obstacles within a biome that you can take advantage of.

An Immersive Space Survival Game

Lead designer Carlix Reneau said that the planets in For the Stars all have their own unique set of resources, hazards, and opportunities. He added that players will not be able to do everything all at once due to how the game works, MassivelyOP said.

Reneau said that For the Stars encourages players to be more resourceful and ingenious with their tools to become more efficient. You can use a variety of items to progress through the game and move forward with your journey.

The game also features advanced construction mechanics where you can establish and expand outposts on various planets. You will have to balance your needs with different structures and work on making your colonies successful.

You can research advanced technologies by studying alien artifacts and natural phenomena.

Researching helps players overcome specific challenges, be more efficient with construction, create advanced equipment, and explore much further than they previously could, according to Worth Playing.
