For Packers QB Malik Willis, it’s about respect and not revenge

When the Tennessee Titans take on the Green Bay Packers, they will see some familiar faces. One of those will be quarterback Malik Willis, who the team traded to the Packers hours before the final cuts.

With Packers starter Jordan Love potentially sidelined with a knee injury, Willis could have a huge impact on the game. Coming off possibly his best game as a pro, Willis could be in line for his second start of the season.

How does he feel about this potential match-up? His answer was quite refreshing.

An offer for Titans fans

“I could care less, bro. I think I got paid the whole time I was there. I’m more than blessed for the opportunity they’ve given me. They brought me into this league, whether those guys are there or not. That organization, they took a shot on me. Miss Amy, they (did) great job by me, for all I’m concerned,” Willis said, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

Nothing about revenge, nothing about outperforming Will Levis, just respect for the organization. That speaks volumes about the former third-round selection in the 2022 NFL draft.

In his two seasons with the Titans, Willis had an up-and-down career. He did show some signs of improvement during training camp before eventually losing out to Mason Rudolph to be the backup.

In Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts, he demonstrated those improvements with a solid and well-rounded effort for the Packers, going 12-of-14 for 122 yards and a touchdown and rushing six times for 41 yards. More importantly, he didn’t make that critical mistake that would cost them the game.

Love was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice, so there is no guarantee that Willis will play. If he does, it sounds like he will be ready.
