For Oz music, this is the best of times - and the worst

With 54 Australian-made tracks in Triple J's latest Hottest 100 countdown, and three Australian artists up for Grammy awards, an optimist would be forgiven for assuming local music was in rude health.

Or at least that it was bouncing back, after a record low count of 27 Australian songs in the 2025 poll (29, if you include collaborations).
