FootJoy’s women’s Pro/SLX is the next evolution of the company’s popular Pro/SL franchise, a shoe that my colleague Katie Dawkins has previously reviewed, so I was keen to see how this model differs and if it stands out as one of the best women’s golf shoes for 2024.
First impression, this is an extremely well-made shoe, what I would call a 'proper' golf shoe. Even before putting it on my foot, I could tell simply by looking at it, the design provided the promise of a shoe that will deliver comfort and stability in equal measure.
It has a clean-looking and modern design, I would describe it as semi-sporty, but it’s not a spikeless shoe that you’d choose to also wear away from the golf course. Similar to Puma’s women’s Avant shoe, the Pro/SLX in this colorway features purple and pink on the midsole and outsole, although it’s also available in black/white/gray or white/gray. If you’re looking for a more traditional looking golf shoe, you might want to opt for FootJoy’s Traditions model.
It’s made using premium leather, which doesn’t feel soft to touch, but I can assure you that comfort is an outstanding feature of this shoe. It has a molded Ortholite Fitbed, which I liked immediately and over a few rounds it will mold to the natural shape of my foot where it distributes the most pressure. Plus, thanks to the StratoFoam midsole, I definitely had a spring in my step.
I was impressed by how much this shoe stood up to the test on wet and slippery ground. This new generation of the Pro/SL is packed with traction technology and I had no problem feeling stable and in control of every shot. I also found it fairly easy to clean the mud off afterwards, although the black/white/gray option is a far more practical color for winter or wet weather golf. It’s also worth mentioning that I usually wear a size 6, but a 5.5 in this model fitted better.
For women looking for a smart shoe that delivers first-class performance, the Pro/SLX is definitely worth considering.
