Football transfer rumours: Ethan Nwaneri to replace Semenyo at Bournemouth?

Antoine Semenyo’s farewell goal for Bournemouth, before his move to Manchester City, sets off a chain reaction over who succeeds him. Ethan Nwaneri, who has struggled for game time at Arsenal, is wanted by a few suitors.

Bournemouth are very interested in a loan move for someone who was the next big thing not too long ago. And still can be, though the word is he still wishes to stay a Gunner and play his part in a title-winning team.

Those gaping gaps in the Manchester City defence may soon be filled by Marc Guéhi, who is free to sign a pre-contract agreement as his Crystal Palace deal ends this summer. Palace would like to cash out what they can to make sure they can keep Oliver Glasner in Croydon; he’s linked with the vacancy at Old Trafford. Liverpool are also interested, as they too have great gaping gaps in their defence. That said, on Wednesday night, Glasner said he expected Guéhi to stay until the end of the season. Though a bid of £40m may change minds in the boardroom.

Palace are also linked with the right-back Zakaria El Ouahdi from Genk. He’s a Morocco international, but isn’t at the Africa Cup of Nations. Daniel Muñoz, such a good player for Palace, came from the same Belgian club.

Ajax are considering a loan move for Manuel Ugarte, who joined Manchester United in January as part of the Ruben Amorim revolution but who has struggled to impose himself. The Uruguay midfielder may lead the latest Old Trafford exodus. One man who is unlikely to return is Marcus Rashford, happy enough to fight on at Barcelona. Ajax, meanwhile, have agreed to sell Lazio their midfielder Kenneth Taylor. Lazio are selling Matteo Guendouzi, the former Arsenal man, to Fenerbahce.

Another defender who could be on the move is Nottingham Forest’s Murillo, once on the Liverpool list, according to previous rumours, but now headed to Milan, it is said. Joe Gomez, an actual Liverpool player, may also move to San Siro. He was supposed to go there in the summer, only for the deal to be pulled as the window slammed shut on 1 September.

West Ham need a goalkeeper, though it seems Bento, currently in Saudi Arabian football, would prefer to join Genoa in Serie A rather than play at the London Stadium.

And one silly and unsubstantiated rumour comes from Spain, namely that Mason Greenwood is being considered for a move to Liverpool. That seems highly unlikely at very best, no matter how good the former Manchester United player has been since joining Marseille.
