Football fans urged to join clapping tribute to 'caring' Scots dad after sudden death

Football fans are being urged to join a touching clapping tribute to a Scots dad after his sudden death.

Edinburgh Hearts supporter Euan Smith, 24, tragically passed away on Wednesday in the Marie Curie hospice.

The doting dad-of-two leaves behind two daughters, six-year-old Cleo and two-year-old Freyha, reports Edinburgh Live.

Loved ones and fellow fans are organising a clap in the 24th minute at the Scottish Cup semi-final between Hearts and Hibs on Saturday.

Heartbroken pal Jamie Reeves wrote on social media: "Any Jambos and Hibees going to the game on Saturday we are planning to have an applause on the 24th minute for my long time friend Euan Smith who sadly passed away.

"Was a huge Jambo and would’ve meant the world to him."

Danielle Walker, Cleo's mum, told Edinburgh Live Euan was the 'strongest person you would ever meet'.

She said: "I just want everyone to know how much Cleo loved him and all his family.

"Euan was the funniest, most caring, strongest person you would ever meet would do anything for his two girls and his family.

"He loved Hearts and fishing and Jake was his best friend."

His auntie Laura Smith said: "Last night we lost our amazing nephew Euan Smith, many of you know he has fought a long and hard battle all his life with his heart condition.

"I have never known a more courageous fun loving human.

"We will all miss him dearly and no words can express how heartbroken we all are. I know you will be watching over us all, you are at peace now."

A memorial is also being held outside Tynecastle Stadium on Friday night, where balloons and lanterns will be released into the sky.

Euan was popular among Hearts fans, with tributes pouring in for the young dad across social media following his death.

Carrie Mackay shared: “Rest easy Euan Smith My heart breaks for his family, beautiful girls and all his friends. One of life’s genuine souls.

“Life can be so cruel, to speak to someone who was so full of positivity to this in just a few days is genuinely heartbreaking.

Leni Crosbie said: “I am really not good at these types of posts, but you were one of my closest friends during my little crazy era so it feels wrong not to.

“Euan, I could always pride you on being such an amazing dad to your girls.

“I am blessed to have known you , I’m sure you know how much I appreciated you from our chat.

“I am absolutely gutted that you’ve passed, your presence in the world will be well and truly missed. Rest Easy Euan.”

Lyndsey Isimo gushed: “Rest in paradise Pablo you fought till the end lad and always with a smile.

“Today is a sad day. Let's do this as I know you were excited to make the game sadly you will be there in spirit, rest in peace.”

While Demi Sinclair added: “Heartbreaking to hear the news, rest easy up there Euan Smith - it was a pleasure spending my high school years with you. What a guy.”
