Football fans join the culture club

So, Bradford City supporters are chanting “City of culture, you’ll never sing that” (‘It was empowering’: Bradford considers the legacy of its city of culture year, 29 December). During Hull’s admirable tenure as city of culture (2017-20), Hull City fans’ arguably more witty chant was: “You’re only here for the culture!”

• The Royal Horticultural Society is encouraging gardeners to plant small trees to help biodiversity (Plant ‘tredges’ to boost England’s tree cover, gardeners urged, 25 December). A quick search for Crataegus laevigata, the only tree named in the article, shows it grows to 8m x 8m. How big do they think our gardens are?

• Thank you for continuing to publish the King William’s College quiz (18 December). I have enjoyed it for many years. Setters may be wise to Googling – making it harder but not impossible – but now AI provides quite a few answers, around half of them correct, the rest laughably wrong.

• Fear not, David Joss Buckley (Letters, 25 December), the Gordon Bennett is safe and sound, and costing us a small fortune in mooring fees. As one of our favourite moorings near Whitchurch is now decimated, I’m not ruling out the possibility of a drone strike ordered by a deranged president who takes exception to a few jokes about his comb-over.
