Footage shows man kicked on the ground by gang in Temple Bar as tourists flood past

A shocking scene occurred in Temple Bar when a man was set upon by a group who proceeded to punch and kick him while on the ground.

Taking place at the rear of the newly-developed €100 million Central Plaza, near the corner of Cope Street and Fownes Street in the city centre, just before 1am in the early hours of Monday morning, security footage submitted to Dublin Live showed the whole incident.

One man can be seen throwing punches while a woman tries to pull the victim to the ground.

Then, when he is on the ground, a number of other people come across to get some cheap kicks in before they are ushered away by the first attacker.

The victim is able to stagger away off-camera before he then appears to be chased by one of the gang who takes off after him down Cope Street.

One local small business owner told Dublin Live that scenes like these were happening in Temple Bar "on a daily basis".

They said: "There were lots of people still walking around, tourists and locals. They chase him down the street and after he staggers away the guy with the hoodie takes off after him.

"Gardai were notified but they haven't bothered to come to view. They keep telling us they have no one to respond so we are left on our own.

"The number of assaults and personal theft attacks around here and the city centre is off the Richter scale. I carry a police baton and pepper spray on me. That's how bad it's got - I have to carry protection.

"It's not the pubs, nightclubs, or hotels but the small coffee shops, barbers, shops, and smaller restaurants. We are the ones suffering with the lack of law and order."

Gardai have been contacted about the attack.
