Footage from Milngavie shows streets submerged in water and tarmac lifted as crews battle to restore supply

The water supply to around 100,000 properties in Glasgow has been impacted by a burst water main that tore through a road in Milngavie.

Video from the scene shows water pouring out from beneath Auchenhowie Road after the 36-inch strategic water main burst around 3.45pm on Tuesday.

The water can be seen flowing as fast as a river and crashing against the pushed-up chunks of tarmac while firefighters look on.

Surrounding streets have been left submerged as Scottish Water teams attempt to repair the main and restore supplies.

Areas impacted include the city centre, Kelvinside, Tradeston, Ibrox, Knightswood, Yoker, Scotstoun and Partick where properties are experiencing no water, low pressure or discoloured water supplies.

Police are on the scene assisting with road closures while firefighters carry out a "water rescue incident" with two fire engines and two water rescue resources dispatched.

A Scottish Water spokeswoman said: “This is a major burst which is impacting a lot of our customers and we want to reassure them we are working as quickly as possible to carry out this repair and restore supplies. We apologise to all customers affected for the inconvenience and disruption.
