Footage captures the shocking moment Wetherspoon punters scream in horror and stand on the tables and chairs as a rat scurries around their feet.
Sean Maguire was trying to enjoy drinks with some of his friends in the Bishop Vesey Wetherspoon pub in Birmingham on May 12, when the rat started causing chaos.
In the footage captured by the 23-year-old trainee-teacher several punters are standing on chairs and tables as they all descend into hysterics after they noticed the rat scurrying around.
In the clip, Sean can be heard shouting: "Guys, there is a rat in the Bishop." Whilst, another shocked customer simply said: "Mate."
As the camera pans across the busy pub, dozens of punters can be seen standing on tables and chairs, all looking and pointing towards another corner, where the rat is believed to have ran.
Sean braves it out and says he is going to “investigate”. He edges over a nearby table in the busy pub and within seconds spots the curious rat under the table
He shouts: "Ah, oh my god. Oh my god" and it was at this point the rat is scared off by the group and immediately scurries away out of sight.
Sean said: "It was about 11 o'clock at night, I was sitting round a table with my friends when everyone started jumping on top of the tables and screaming.
"The rat then ran under our table so we did the same, I started recording and got it on camera.
"Then not long after that the bar staff asked everyone to leave.
"They [Wetherspoon staff] were kind of just scrambling - I don't think they really knew what to do.
"They just told everyone to leave. I was laughing to be honest, I thought it was hilarious.
"If there's any pub you're gonna find a rat in it will be a Wetherspoons."
Sean shared the video online and it has since attracted over 130,000 views. A number of online users expressed their shock at what they saw.
One said: "I would have ran away." Another wrote: "I'd be gone." A third added: "How are people still there?"
While one person commented: "Somehow this is the most British thing I've ever seen."
A spokesman for Wetherspoon said: “We are aware of a video circulating of a rodent in the customer area at the Bishop Vesey pub on 12 May.
"We can confirm that this was an isolated incident, where a rodent had entered the pub through the open doors. It is thought that the pest activity was as a result of building works taking place next door to the pub.
"In the two weeks since the incident, a full pest management plan has been implemented, which includes weekly visits by pest contractor, Rentokil, and a number of other prevention measures.
"While it is unfortunate that the incident occurred, we are pleased to note that the measures appear to have been successful but will continue to be reviewed.
"Finally, the sighting is in no way a reflection of the pub, which was awarded the maximum food hygiene rating of 5 (out of 5) by the local authority and reflects excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene in place.”
