This was the emotional moment a couple got engaged on Grafton Street on Christmas Eve.
Larragh Landgren was surprised by her partner Daniel Castanho while they were out on a walk with their friends. And Dublin Live were there to capture the moment after we came upon Daniel on one knee in front of the big Christmas tree outside St Stephen's Green Shopping Centre.
Larragh is originally from Australia, and Daniel is Brazilian. The pair met five years ago in Dublin having both moved here. “We met here five years ago, and since then we’ve been together, living together here, and finally we got engaged in the place that brought us together,” Daniel said.
Larragh was overcome with emotion. “I’m so happy, I’m in shock!” she gasped. And when asked if she expected a proposal, she said: "Not at all, no... I was just giving out to him!”
Their friends who were walking with them were in on Daniel's plan, and they also captured the surprise moment for their other friends and family. Daniel said: “I brought a couple of my friends, my niece is there as well, just to help me film it and everything. It’s quite a moment!”
Their proposal happened just metres away from Glen Hansard and Imelda May leading a chorus of hundreds of Dubs singing 'Fairytale of New York' at their Christmas busk outside the Gaiety Theatre. Up to 1,000 people were gathered outside the Gaiety to witness Glen's annual Christmas busk return in-person after a Covid-enforced break for the last two years.
Everyone here at Dublin Live would like to congratulate Larragh and Daniel on their engagement!
