With the rising cost of energy bills, many people are turning away from traditional ways of cooking in favour of more energy-efficient techniques. A particularly popular go-to is the air fryer, which can slash cooking costs by half. From pizzas to chips, the air fryer has proven to be a hit when it comes to preparing comforting favourites, and this apparently includes deliciously fresh breakfast treats.
There's nothing quite like a plate of golden, runny poached eggs on a Saturday morning, paired with a strong cup of tea, and yet many people perhaps won't realise that an air fryer may well do the trick just as well as a pan.
Food writer Laura Nightingale, who regularly shares easy and healthy recipes via Instagram and YouTube, has recently shared her five-minute recipe for air-fried poached eggs with Surrey Live.

Laura, who goes by the Instagram handle @cakeontherun, swears by her trusty air fryer, which she has previously used to rustle up everything from apple crumble to bread.
Her poached eggs recipe is just as simple to follow, with just four easy-to-follow steps, and all you'll need is an air fryer, an egg kept at room temperature, and, of course, a bit of toast and butter.
Laura Nightingale's air-fried poached eggs recipe:
- Pour approximately 100ml of hot water into either a small heat-proof bowl or cup.
- Crack your egg into the water, which should only just be covering it.
- After pre-heating your air fryer for one minute, you should pop your cup inside and air fry on 200C for four to five minutes.
- Drain away any excess water and remove egg from the cup or bowl, serving it up with a slice of hot buttered toast.
For those yet to invest in an air fryer, Laura, who described her poached eggs as 'the best five-minute breakfast recipe', recommends the Tefal ActiFry, which is available for £199 from AO.
For those looking to stick to a budget, the Salter EK2818 3.2L Hot Air Fryer costs £46.94 from Amazon, and has received hundreds of glowing reviews from happy customers.
