Staff at a Cheshire foodbank have warned they're facing a "tsunami" after the number of families relying on the service has almost doubled in the past year.
West Cheshire Foodbank, which has centres in Ellesmere Port, Neston and Chester, supports more than 13,000 people in need across the region. Demand has risen by 103% since pre-pandemic levels in 2019, and staff are concerned about the possibility of running out of food heading into the autumn.
Trustee Ian Oulton Trustee Ian Oulton says diminishing food stocks are a "genuine worry", as donations have decreased, while demand continues to increase to "record" levels.
