'Focused' Josko Gvardiol plays down transfer valuation amid Chelsea and Tottenham links

Josko Gvardiol has insisted he does not believe he is worth the €75million (£66million) quoted for his services in an interview discussing his future. The Chelsea transfer target has become one of the most in-demand centre-backs in the football world with his displays for RB Leipzig and Croatia, with Tottenham and Real Madrid also keen.

The 21-year-old left-footed defender has been a mainstay in the backline at the Bundesliga outfit for some time and was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer. The Blues instead signed Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana in a major overhaul of their defence.

Gvardiol's stock has only risen further this season after his impressive displays at the Qatar World Cup. The Leipzig man played a starring role in Croatia's third-place finish in the tournament and talk of a future move have resurfaced this month.

Chelsea have recently secured the signing of Benoit Badiashile, minimising the need for another centre-back within Graham Potter's squad. However, potential suitors continue to monitor Gvardiol's situation at Leipzig, including Spurs.

Reports in Germany have claimed Antonio Conte's side are among a list of clubs who are considering making a move for the centre-back in the summer. Real Madrid and Liverpool have also been credited with interest but face a tough task of persuading Leipzig to sell up after they successfully negotiated an extension of his deal in the summer.

As clubs around the world continue to conduct their January business, Gvardiol has discussed his future in an interview with Croatian outlet Danas whilst also shedding light on his failed move to London in the summer. However, there was also the mention of the £66million price tag that transfermarkt valued him at, although Gvardiol has rubbished the fee.

"I don’t bother with numbers," he said in an interview.

"Half of that is probably not true because I am in contact with people at the club and I don’t think there have been any negotiations. I have a manager who deals with it and I am maximally focused on the work on the field."

Gvardiol also hinted that he will remain at Leipzig for the rest of the current campaign, ruling out a January transfer.

He added: "I am also happy for the club to achieve something big. I'm not in a hurry, I'm in Leipzig, we still have six months to finish the season properly and to win something. And then we will look further to the future."
