Flynn urges Scots to ‘slam shut’ the door on Reform and Farage by backing SNP

Scots are being urged to “slam shut” the door on Reform UK in Thursday’s Holyrood election – with SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn insisting Nigel Farage is “dangerous”.

Mr Flynn said with voters across the UK “scunnered” with the Labour Government, Sir Keir Starmer had “opened the door” to Mr Farage and his party.

But he insisted Reform UK could be beaten in Scotland – claiming that the SNP is “the only party strong enough to stop Farage at the Scottish border”.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s elections, where local councils across much of England are up for grabs, as well as seats at both Holyrood and the Senedd in Wales, Mr Flynn declared: “In England, Farage is in first place but in Scotland he can be beaten by the SNP.

“The SNP is the only party strong enough to stop Farage at the Scottish Borders and send him packing.”

Warning that it “looks inevitable” that local elections in England will be about “the rise of Farage”, the SNP MP said that Scots could “choose a different path”.

Mr Flynn added: “By voting SNP tomorrow, Scotland can halt the rise of Farage, prioritise the cost of living and escape the constant chaos of Westminster control with independence.”

The SNP MP, who is running for Holyrood in the Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine constituency,  argued voters in the Holyrood election could “lock Nigel Farage out of power in Scotland” by backing his party.

Mr Flynn said: “Keir Starmer opened the door to Nigel Farage by breaking his promises and leaving voters absolutely scunnered – but people in Scotland can slam it shut by voting SNP on Thursday.”

The SNP Westminster leader said there was “no question that Britain is broken” – but he claimed Mr Farage had “made it even worse by imposing Brexit, which has wiped billions from the UK economy and left us all poorer”.

Continuing his attack, Mr Flynn said: “Farage is the ultimate snake oil salesman – pretending he’s the fix to a mess he helped create.

“The truth is, he’s dangerous. Farage poses the biggest threat to Scotland’s NHS, his rhetoric is poisonous, his policies are toxic – and he’s only interested in lining his own pockets, with millions of pounds in murky funds from crypto donors and far-right cranks.”
