The first commercial marine vessels to be built in Belfast in decades have just been launched onto the global market by the company led by former Olympic sailing champion Iain Percy, ushering in green technology which should create 1,000 jobs in the next decade.
Artemis Technology’s zero emissions electric boats are the first in a range of designs which the company has brought to market and represent a £12 million investment in research and development into sustainable commercial maritime travel at its Northern Ireland base.
Equipped with a foil which allows the vessels to essentially fly above waves and encounter minimal drag, the company’s design is initially being commercialised for so-called work boats, which transport crew to large vessels but is expected to be expanded to ferries and other ships in the future.
