Flybig to start Delhi-Shillong direct from May 2; draws up big expansion plans

NEW DELHI: Indore-based regional airline flybig has drawn up major expansion plans. It has wet-leased a Bombardier Q400 (taken on rent along with operating crew) from Ethiopian Airlines to start a direct flight between Delhi and Shillong from Monday (May 2).

Airline MD Captain Sanjay Mandavia has told TOI another Q400 will soon be taken on dry lease (without operating crew).

“flybig will deploy the Q400 on the Delhi-Shillong journey. It will be a twice-weekly flight. The Q400, apart from being more fuel efficient than other turboprops, also has comfortable seats and bigger windows and generous overhead stowage,” Mandavia said.

The airline currently has three ATRs and a Q400 in its fleet.

“We have an investor in RDB Group and have ordered 10 Twin Otters for flights between tier 3 and 4 cities. We will get 7 more ATRs by March 2023 to have 10 ATRs in our fleet,” he said.
