Flustered Celtic fan needs a lie down after Rangers confession leaves him in a spin – Hotline

It's spot on we call it the split – because the Premiership’s controversial conclusion has divided opinions for more than 20 years.

Every year there are complaints and this season is no different with folk hitting the Hotline this week incredibly moaning about the prospect of an Old Firm title decider.

But Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Why should the Celtic v Rangers fixture be moved, just because it’s possible Celtic could win the league that day?

“The split system is a big enough joke without moving games because Rangers fans can’t handle Celtic’s success.

“You would think they would be used to it by now.”

Stephen Ward, Milngavie, said: “Rangers fans are already running scared before the final league game against Celtic.”

Brian McColligan, via email, said: “Is there no pleasing the Rangers fans? They mock Celtic for being out of Europe but bemoan about having to play on a Thursday before a derby game. You can’t have it both ways.”

The title is still up for grabs, but this call must be mind games.

Billy McCallum emailed: “Regarding the team who wins SPFL this season going straight into group stages of Champions League.

“The team that comes second and plays qualifiers will make more money if they get through to group stages because of ticket sales for these games and TV revenue plus group stage money.”

Second is best after all, who would have thought it?

Celts are out in front but Gers fans reckon the league has been bought and paid for.

Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: “If you spend £25m in this league and don't win it there is seriously something wrong. However I would have expected more from Celtic in Europe to boost the coefficient having spent that sort of money.”

Dean Ridgers, Barassie, said: “Any advantage Celtic have over Rangers this week is due to investment in the squad.

“All season we were being told Rangers had a bigger and better squad but their reluctance to strengthen in January might now be showing. They will just need to get on with it.”

Hoops fans are on a high ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup showdown and Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “May I remind all these Rangers fans you were six points clear and you were going to win everything.

“You blew it. I have more chance of landing on the moon than Rangers winning the Europa League and they will be hunting a new manager come the end of May.

“The Treble is on like I told you in February.”

But Rab Roberts, Bo’ness, said: “As a lifelong Celtic supporter I hate to agree with Nacho Novo, but regarding his statement on Steve Davis, he’s spot on. Davis is the best midfielder at Ibrox at present, maybe the second best ever!

“Gio van Bronckhorst is playing midfielders who can demonstrate greater energy levels, but do not have the football brain of Davis.

“There I’ve said it! Now I need to lie down for a while!”

Elsewhere, back to the league grumbles, and Stephen Johnstone Ardentinny, said: “Aberdeen are lucky not to be dragged into the farce of a relegation playoff. The bottom two should go down, with the top two in the Championship promoted.

“It’s just favouritism towards the big guns like Aberdeen to Hibs if they are in danger of getting relegated.”

Finally, Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “I cannot believe that Kenny Dalglish has proposed that Ukraine step aside from the World Cup Play Off game with Scotland and in return will be given automatic qualification to the 2026 World Cup.

“Ukraine need positive publicity now and not in four years' time.

“The situation is awkward but Scotland must do everything possible to get this game played, and be warned, the rest of the world want Ukraine to win.”
