Floyd Mayweather taken six rounds by Deji before finally stopping YouTube star

Floyd Maweather ultimately stopped Deji in the sixth round of their exhibition clash after a better-than-expected performance from his YouTube rival.

The ring legend, who won world titles in five weight divisions as a professional, clowned around for five rounds before deciding to close the show and avoid being taken the distance. Deji did at least have some success of his own and later boasted of leaving Mayweather with a black eye.

Mayweather barely stood in stance in the opening stages as he clowned Deji and threw half-hearted punches. Deji, understandably, was rather more focused as he attempted to pop out his southpaw jab to the body. Mayweather then spent at least 30 seconds slipping Deji's punches without bothering to throw back.

After the opening session, Mayweather played the role of ring card girl before he continued to troll Deji between the ropes. The Brit did manage to land a right hand in the opening minute to which Mayweather responded with his first real combination with Deji pinned to the ropes.

Mayweather did pad work between the second and third stanzas before patting Deji condescendingly on the head. His younger rival attempted to respond with an uppercut which drew only laughter from the undefeated legend. Deji landed a left hand at the start at the fourth round which sparked Mayweather into a response.

But referee Kenny Bayless had to step in to twice warn Mayweather for landing low blows - a telling off which did not go down well with the 45-year-old. Mayweather started round five with more intent but Deji refused to be intimidated and answered back.

Mayweather required treatment for a cut over his eye while Deji did push-ups in the opposite corner. That only served to infuriate Mayweather as he pushed forward at the start of the sixth session looking for a stoppage. Deji continued to answer back however as he made a mockery of the huge gap in quality.

But once Mayweather pinned Deji in the corner once more, referee Bayless stepped in to stop the fight, a decision Deji didn't agree with. "I feel good, I think it was an early stoppage. I wanted to carry on. But I mean, boxing's boxing, I understand," he said.
