Floyd Mayweather responds to claim he is "broke" by showing off $20million watches

Floyd Mayweather has shown off watches worth $20million in response to claims he is "broke".

The boxing legend will take part in his fourth lucrative exhibition bout this weekend in Japan against Mikuru Asakura as he continues to earn millions long after retiring. Mayweather was involved in some of the highest grossing bouts in boxing history including against Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor before hanging up his gloves with a perfect 50-0 record.

However YouTube star Jake Paul joined fans in suggesting Mayweather continues to fight in exhibitions because he has run out of money. “ Floyd Mayweather is broke. That’s what a lot of people don’t realise. He gets these big cheques and doesn’t pay taxes on them," Paul said. "Then the IRS comes hunting him down later. He owes a lot of people I know money."

However Mayweather has rejected those claims in an interview with TMZ Sports where the interviewer encouraged him to flaunt his collection of expensive watches. Mayweather responded: "Throw a number out there so I can get you a watch that fits in that price range."

The interviewer replies: "$2million." Mayweather quickly brandishes a Rainbow Tourbillon piece in yellow gold with rainbow diamonds, which he prices at the figure that was suggested. He is then asked which piece is the most expensive, to which he holds up a Jacob & Co. one-off Billionaire Watch which was presented to the world in 2015 and is currently his most valuable timekeeper.

Mayweather reveals the watch has been in his possession since 2018 and is made from 260 carats worth of emerald-cut baguette diamonds and 18-carat white gold. The pair of watches are worth a combined $20m and he clearly has many more which he was willing to display.

Mayweather adds: "It’s not cheap to fly around the world in a private jet. I will continue to be successful, continue to build generational wealth and continue to take care of my family because that's what it's really about.” Mayweather will have another piece to add to the collection having been filmed picking up a brand new Audemars Piguet watch from a luxury jeweller in Japan which he paid for with a thick wad of cash.

Mayweather is known for commanding huge purses from his career where his nickname was 'Money', and he has since claimed that he continues to make huge wealth. The 45-year-old previously claimed he makes $300m every month which would see him earn in excess of $3billion a year if the figures are correct.
