Floyd Mayweather apologises to fans for Logan Paul's performance during fight

Floyd Mayweather has apologised to fans after claiming Logan Paul came to "slow dance" in their exhibition last year.

The boxing legend touched gloves with Paul last June but was unable to enjoy sustained success with his rival surviving the eight-round distance. Despite fans being unimpressed with the clash, it was viewed as a roaring success with one million pay-per-views sold for the event, which saw Mayweather walk away with an estimated $65million purse.

Paul was delighted with his role in the fight having managed to prevent Mayweather from scoring a KO victory and also believes he won the showdown. However the former undefeated champion believes he was the only one who entered the ring with the intention of closing the show early.

"If an exhibition is not really doing any bodily harm and I am not really taking any abuse I can go out there and have fun and entertain the people," Mayweather told TMZ Sports when assessing his exhibitions so far including with Paul. "My last one in Abu Dhabi was great and it was very entertaining but the one with me and Logan Paul wasn't that great because I came to fight and he came to slow dance.

"It really wasn't a great exhibition so I want to apologise to everyone and tell them I am sorry for what happened in Miami. I don't know how it will play out this Saturday [next exhibition with Mikuru Asakura] but if he comes to fight, you are going to get a great and entertaining show."

Mayweather has been critical of Paul in the aftermath of the contest, and has even claimed that the YouTube star reached out over a potential rematch due to the success of the event in generating revenue. However Paul has strongly denied this was the case, and has moved on using his ever-growing profile to earn a contract with the WWE.

No result was declared in the exhibition between the pair, but the general consensus was that Mayweather outlanded his rival despite struggling to break down the resolute defence of Paul. And the 27-year-old believes there is no way that Mayweather can claim that he won the fight having failed to deliver on his KO promise he made during the fight build-up.

"I didn't lose it was an exhibition," Paul said on the most recent episode of his Impaulsive podcast when discussing his bout with Mayweather. "I didn't lose there was no loser. I mean I am going to be honest with you, I think I won that fight. He didn't knock a YouTuber out in eight rounds and he guaranteed a KO in that press conference. I don't know if there is a world where you can take away from that fight that Floyd won."
