A 35-year-old Florida resident, identified as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting at the Beverly Crest residence of global music superstar Rihanna on 8 March 2026.

Prosecutors allege that the suspect, an Orlando resident, drove a white Tesla to the singer's estate and discharged multiple rounds from a semi-automatic weapon.

The incident has drawn widespread attention due to the danger posed to the singer, her family, and others inside the property at the time.

Attempted Murder Charges Filed

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has charged Ortiz with one count of attempted murder in connection with the shooting. Prosecutors also filed 10 felony counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling.

If convicted on the charges, Ortiz could face a sentence of life imprisonment under California law. Authorities say the case will be pursued vigorously due to the seriousness of the alleged offence and the number of people placed at risk.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasised the danger posed by such incidents in a statement, warning that 'opening fire in any populated neighbourhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk and will be fully prosecuted.'

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, the shooting occurred shortly after 1:20 pm local time (9:20 pm GMT) when the suspect allegedly drove to the singer's residence and fired several rounds from a semi-automatic weapon in the direction of the property.

Authorities said the star, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, was inside the home at the time along with her partner A$AP Rocky, their three young children, her mother, and staff members.

Despite the alarming circumstances, officials confirmed that no one inside the residence was injured. However, law enforcement sources said those present 'easily could have been hit' by the gunfire.

Police reports suggest several bullets struck the property's front gate during the incident, while dispatch audio referenced approximately 10 shots being fired.

Following the shooting, the suspect allegedly fled the area but was arrested a short time later in Sherman Oaks, several miles from the Beverly Crest property.

Ortiz is currently being held in custody, with bail set at approximately $1.875 million. A court order also requires her to stay away from the singer and her partner while the case proceeds through the legal system.

The defendant appeared in court wearing a jail uniform during an initial hearing, with the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office appointed to represent her. Her arraignment has been scheduled for later this month.

In a statement, the public defender's office said it could not comment on the allegations while the case remains pending before the court.

Motive Still Unclear

Investigators have not yet determined what may have motivated the alleged attack. Authorities say there is currently no confirmed evidence of a personal relationship between the suspect and the singer.

Reports indicate Ortiz travelled from Florida to California before the shooting, though officials have not provided details about when she arrived or why she went to the neighbourhood.

Some reports suggest social media posts allegedly linked to the suspect referenced the singer, but investigators have not publicly confirmed whether these messages are connected to the case.

Security Concerns for High-Profile Celebrities

The shooting has reignited concerns about the safety of celebrities living in some of Los Angeles' most exclusive residential areas. Despite tight security and gated communities, high-profile individuals have frequently faced threats ranging from stalking to property intrusions.

For Rihanna, the incident is not the first time security concerns have emerged around her properties. In 2018, a man was arrested after breaking into one of the singer's homes and remaining inside for several hours before being apprehended by police.

Authorities say the current investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare to move forward with the case against Ortiz.

If convicted, the suspect could face life behind bars for what prosecutors describe as an act of reckless violence that placed multiple lives in danger.
