Florida teen flying American Airlines is moved, despite paying for a seat. The alleged reason: instructions from the ‘flight attendant manual’

A Florida parent recently took to the American Airlines subreddit to try and understand what happened after an expensive seat-related experience involving their 13-year-old daughter. The Reddit user, FDR1893, explained that their daughter was traveling as an unaccompanied minor (UM) on a round trip from JAX to DCA. While the outbound leg of the trip went smoothly, the return flight presented an unexpected hurdle when the teen was moved to the back of the plane.

In their post on Reddit, the user noted that they had specifically booked a window seat near the front of the aircraft, seat 9A. They alleged, “From DCA to JAX, she was put in the very back of the plane and when she told the agent that I had paid extra for her seat near the front, the agent told her that I shouldn’t have done that because per ‘flight attendants manual,’ UM must seat in the back.”
