A Florida mother of three residing in the coastal town of Steinhatchee, located in the Big Bend area, recently shared her harrowing experience following the impact of Hurricane Helene. Jules Carl, who has weathered through multiple hurricanes in the past, expressed that the flooding caused by Helene was the most severe she has ever witnessed.
Carl recounted the alarming situation, stating, 'I’ve got a boat sitting in the road in front of me right now and fish in our yard.' She further explained that despite previously not having to worry much about flooding at her residence, this particular storm posed a significant threat.
Reflecting on the intensity of the flooding, Carl mentioned, 'It was coming up our patio steps. It got very, very close to coming in.' The mother, who was pregnant with her youngest child during the record-breaking Hurricane Idalia that struck the area a year ago, expressed her concerns for the well-being of her community.
As damage assessment reports continue to trickle in, Carl emphasized the devastating impact of the storm on Steinhatchee. 'This town is pretty well devastated,' she remarked, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The aftermath of Hurricane Helene serves as a stark reminder of the destructive power of natural disasters and the importance of preparedness in vulnerable coastal regions. The resilience and courage displayed by individuals like Jules Carl in the face of such adversity are a testament to the strength of communities coming together in times of crisis.
