Two Florida men, Torrey Holston and Jose Garcia Romero, are standing trial for the 2019 killing of off-duty firefighter Christopher Randazzo. The two men, now 26 and 27 respectively, allegedly targeted Randazzo, a 39-year-old firefighter and paramedic, outside a resort in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. The case has drawn widespread attention across the country due to the disturbing nature of both the crime and the behavior of the accused afterward.
According to court records, Holston and Garcia Romero killed Randazzo for a pair of red Nike sneakers, an iPhone, and a wallet with just $55 in it. They left him face down on the ground, with no shoes, no phone, and no wallet. The sheer triviality of what was taken makes the crime all the more difficult to understand for those following the case closely.
