The Justice Department has announced charges against a Florida man for allegedly threatening to kill President Joe Biden. This incident occurred just days before an unrelated assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The FBI has stated that there is currently no known motive in the shooting targeting Trump and no evidence of any accomplices involved.
Jason Patrick Alday, 39, reportedly made threats against President Biden while checking into a mental health facility, initially stating he would 'slit' Biden's throat. Following this, in early July, Alday was interviewed by agents from the US Secret Service at his home regarding the alleged threats, which he denied. However, a few days later, Alday allegedly posted a threat on social media, stating 'I'll kill Joe Biden today!'
Further investigation revealed additional threats made by Alday against the president on social media, including one questioning whether he should 'finish him off' due to false claims about Biden's health. Additionally, racist threats were found against the Secret Service agent who had interviewed Alday, including the use of anti-Black slurs.
Alday has been charged with three crimes, including making threats against the President of the United States. He appeared in court on Wednesday and has been ordered detained pending trial.
