Usually, a high-speed police chase is a once-in-a-lifetime event — if you’re not a cop. Some would argue that experience is exactly why most people don’t stand much of a chance against law enforcement. But Jefry Julian Chaucanes Vasquez, 23, is a rare exception. He didn’t just lead police on two separate pursuits in his lifetime—he allegedly did it twice in the same week. He even stole an SUV straight out of a courthouse parking lot.
The Florida native was first arrested on June 9 after driving a Mazda sedan at 90 mph on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 80. When deputies attempted to pull him over, Vasquez allegedly accelerated to 125 mph instead. During the pursuit, investigators say he drove recklessly, even forcing other motorists off the road.
