An incident in Flagler County, Florida, saw a dramatic turn of events as an inmate attempted to escape by faking a fall injury. Anthony Romine, 29, was apprehended after a seven-hour pursuit by a Flagler County Sheriff's K-9 team.
Romine was found hiding in a wooded area near a gas station, concealed under foliage and underbrush. Video footage of the arrest shows the K-9 dragging Romine, who was heard screaming in pain during the ordeal.
Authorities revealed that Romine had initially been arrested on July 3 on charges including petty theft, violation of pre-trial release, and counterfeiting. While in jail, he feigned a fall injury in an attempt to escape and return to his home state of Ohio.
Sheriff Rick Staly commended the efforts of the law enforcement team and the community for their vigilance in aiding Romine's capture. Staly emphasized that Romine's escape attempt only resulted in additional charges being filed against him, including felony escape and battery on a law enforcement officer without violence.
Following the incident, an investigation was announced to determine how the deputy overseeing Romine became distracted, leading to the escape. Despite the intense pursuit and capture, no injuries were reported except for Romine, who was bitten by the K-9 during the apprehension.
The sheriff's office highlighted the importance of community involvement in reporting suspicious activities and reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety.
