Florida drops in playoff rankings after loss to LSU

Florida’s stunning loss to LSU last Saturday only dropped the Gators one spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday evening.

UF (8-2) landed at No. 7 in this week’s poll, suggesting it will be difficult for the team to earn a spot in the four-team semifinals even with the win over Alabama (10-0) in the SEC Championship Game Saturday.

“The committee these last two days spent a great deal of time talking about the grouping of Iowa State, Florida, Georgia and Cincinnati,” said Playoff chairman Gary Barta. “Iowa State and Cincinnati were idle so a lot of conversation about Florida and Georgia. I can tell you it was back-and-forth.
