A Florida deputy is currently fighting for his life after being critically injured in a tragic accident that resulted in the loss of two of his colleagues. The incident occurred on Southern Boulevard when Deputy Ignacio Diaz, along with Cpl. Luis Paez and Deputy Sheriff Ralph Waller, were conducting traffic enforcement in the area.
According to Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, the deputies were on the shoulder of the road when they were struck by a female driver who was attempting to pass a vehicle on her right. The driver overcompensated, causing the deputies to be hit and thrown in different directions.
Deputy Diaz underwent surgery and is now in critical but stable condition in the ICU, while Paez and Waller tragically succumbed to their injuries despite efforts to save them. The female driver, who did not appear to be impaired and was within the speed limit, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Sheriff Bradshaw emphasized the dangers faced by law enforcement officers, highlighting the risks they take every time they leave their homes. He described the accident as 'horrific' and expressed the impact of losing deputies on the community.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has requested thoughts and prayers for Deputy Diaz and his family during this challenging time. They also mourn the loss of Paez and Waller, honoring their memory and providing support to their families.
