Florida's seven Catholic dioceses have told the state's attorney general that their schools will continue to refuse religious exemptions from vaccine requirements, and that the government has no authority to review the theology behind that decision.
The response came in a letter from the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops to Attorney General James Uthmeier, dated August 7, 2026, and made public this month. It followed an open letter Uthmeier sent the conference on July 31, asking the bishops to explain the religious grounds for the policy and giving them seven days to reply.
